Ole Roof Renovation
Older homes have stood the test of time, and most notably their roofs. The porch roofs built over 100 years ago are still in place but many have started to deteriorate even though some maintenance was at hand.
But older roofs can only last for so long. In this case of the New Brunswick, Jacksonville house, after the metal roof was removed it was obvious that some of the wood sheathing and wood rafters would have to be replaced as well. A job best left to an experienced contractor.
One accepted repair consists of usually installing 15 lb felt paper with approved metal fasteners over the wood substrate and than to apply a GAF SBS Black mop down roof system. I always recommend to replace the old metal drop tubes that are used to drain the roof into the gutters. To finish the job aluminum gravel stops are installed at the roof edge.
